3月27日 In the Newspaper: Man's car gets stolen in JB. Here is the unoffical do and don'tLots of Singaporeans now travel to JB for day trips and weekends in their cars. Lots more traffic jams nowdays compared to early 2000. Singaporeans can buy car but then need to go to JB for waxing or fuel or car wash.
Too expensive here ? Tell you government! The polls are coming soon. Give benefits to people who have kids to own cars! Give benefit to housewifes who quit their skilled jobs to take care of kids. This mom should pay less for their cars since they need to drive the kids to school and to other activites. They need to drive hubby to work...Isn't that good, so many things to do with a single car... reduces road jams in Singapore as well. Why isn't this happening.. Very sad !
Anyway here is the check list
1. Keep a low profile. Don't rev too much or cut lanes or be rude on the road. In Singapore you can do it, since every other person is like that. Don't try it over in JB. Remember, you are driving a Singapore car, you already at a disadvantage.
2. SUV are very high in the list of cars being stolen. So think a few times if you want to go there. Buy a different car then. Nobody wants to hijack a KIA or Hyundai. Even better buy a proton. You will blend in easily in JB :). Lots of Singaporean Malays drive in to JB. I see them mostly in KIAs and Hyundai.Cheap cars but it is still a car.
3. Never park your car, especially in the areas around Holiday Plaza, Taman Sentosa etc. Cars get stolen from the outdoor car park at GIANT too. If you have to park, maybe for dinner/lunch etc, park car in your full view. Anybody walk up to it, you could see it. Keep a look out of your car at all times. Get one family member to sit in the car or guard the car. Pack food for him or her. Anyway learn to cook at home. Buy cook books and make a family activity. Cook for the Mrs and she will take you to heaven and back in the bed :)
4. Get a handphone with good camera or a digital camera. You could take pictures of the person robbing your car, like in the case of the story in the newspaper today. I am surprise he did not smash the window of his car and grab the person driving his car. Or throw something under the wheel to prevent it from moving. Do something. Even a stool from the coffee shop would do the trick.\
4. Have a remote control immobilizer. If you can see you car being driven away, hit the remote control to immobilize the car.
5. Don't go to JB for simple things like waxing.. come on.. why risk a S$100,000 car for a mere wax. Do the wax yourself. It is a great workout. You will sweat a lot. You arms and back will ache, but who cares, you love your car. Get the kids involved too. Trouble is you will be doing in the HDB car park. Of course if you have a multi storey car park would be better since it is shaded.
If i think more, i would add to this list.....
